As I've mentioned before, my main machine is a heavy duty Necchi. It has no other information. There's a plate on the bottom edge when you lift it up that says 'Made in Taiwan' so I know it's not an Italian one, and a serial number, but that's it. Googling for 'heavy duty Necchi' doesn't help, because they're all listed as heavy duty. All of the others I come across are just called heavy duty by whoever is advertising them, so it doesn't even mean anything.

This machine reminds of some of the Kenmore machines that Sears sold years ago.
Janome (New Home) makes some Necchi models and presently makes Kenmore machines.
Maybe check out the Relics site and see if you can identify your Necchi model. Was wondering if it could be a 512 or 513??
There was a similar Nelco/Alco machine. My first machine was a Nelco and it was a nice machine. Very quiet and strong.

You could join the Yahoo group necchi files. Lots of knowledgable, helpful members.
You may get some help from necchi sewing machine club but they focus on the Italian made Necchis.

I just bought this same sewing machine at a thrift shop. I have searched the web to find out about this machine. It says it is a necchi but it was made in Taiwan. I hope it is a good machine. I do not have the attachments or the owners manual. I would like to buy them if anyone can help me with that I would appreciate it. Also any information you have about this machine would help.

Maybe depends on where you got yours from even. I think the people whom sell them on ebay, just even sort of borrow and make up and stick any name they feel like on them, anytime they want actually. I see some there now, they got painted up, and they are using even the old 'Dressmaker' name on some, and then using 'Omega' for some others.

I recently acquired this machine because I loved how quiet it seems when running and the fact it is a considerably heavy machine (I was looking for something that would last a long time). The only thing I have is the importer's sticker on it and a serial number. It was made in Japan and the motor has a model number on it, but only shows 'Made in Japan' as well.

How can I identify the manufacturer, model, and year? I am missing a few pieces and would love to have a manual, but without the manufacture and model or year, that seems to be impossible.

It appears that almost all (if not all) Necchi sewing machines were made in Italy. Necchi-Alco machines were made in several different countries but mostly in Japan.
  • It appears that Necchi collaborated with several companies (not just Alco) by lending their name but not all machines are Necchi 'clones'.
  • You say you have the serial number but usually the model number is with the serial number and the model number would be a big help in locating parts.
  • Here is a note from a repair shop about the model number:
  • Find the identification plaque on the sewing machine itself. Somewhere on the sewing machine -- and the location changes depending on the model -- you will find a square metal plaque containing both the model number and serial number.

    This plaque will either be on the bottom of the unit or on one of the sides.
  • Here is a link to a company that sells most of the vintage sewing machine manuals but I did not see any model resembling yours. This link is for asking questions but they seem to be slow in answering. If you can get an answer, they may have a manual of a similar machine as lots of machines are the same with only a few minor differences.
  • If this is no help then you may have to Google (your zip code) for a repair shop that specializes in vintage machines (especially Singer).
Manuals are usually about $20 on this site but well worth this cost if you need parts information.

It might be a Morse? Could you possibly zoom in on the silver oval label at the bottom?

The oval label states Necchi-Alco Imports. Someone told me that it is NOT a Necchi machine but then a friend told me it is. So confusing.

This appears a great deal like a machine made by the Brother company. Mine was a bit fancier, built in 1971 with Montgomery Wards name on it. It weighed 36 lbs. The Brother company was behind many store name brands. Western Auto was another one. The main difference in sewing machines is the straight or slanted pressure foot. Singer is known for having slanted ones. This seems to be the main question when ordering generic parts.

Play with your machine to get to know it. Then go to a store that sells used machines, or a repair shop. Any questions you still have any tech should be able to answer. Yours is a strong mechanical model that should last more than a lifetime with care. Good Luck. PS I have more than 6 machines, different brands, from portable plastic ones to industrial ones. I work on them all.
